VAVETS supports our Virginia Veterans and their families as they evaluate their options for education and training. Our volunteers will provide local training to help our Veterans reintegrate back into their families and communities. Our staff and volunteers will also partner with Virginia Colleges and Universities in each of our regions to ensure our Veterans have the knowledge and tools to be successful in the classroom. Here at VAVETS we understand that college is not for everyone. VAVETS will work with our regional businesses to establish vocational training centers and apprenticeships. VAVETS will also participate in TechHire. TechHire is a bold new multi-sector initiative and call to action to empower Veterans with the skills they need through universities and community colleges, but also through non-traditional approaches like “coding boot camps” and high-quality online courses that can rapidly train workers for a well-paying job … often in just a few months.

Virginia Regional Colleges and Universities
VAVETS will work to identify and establish Veteran friendly Colleges and Universities across our four regions (NOVA, Richmond, Roanoke and Hampton). We encourage our Veterans to reach out to our staff, or our partner below to explore their educational options.
Northern Virginia Community College’s (NOVA’s) Office of Military Services helps all members of the military community (active duty, veterans and family members) achieve their education and career goals. If you are a military affiliated student, our office is here to serve you. Email the Office of Military Services at: email@example.com, or call 703.293.8132.
Program Management Training & Certification
Veterans struggle to quantify their unique experience into a powerful value proposition to civilian employers…we know because we have been there-done that. But, Veterans have a unique skill-set that directly translates to project management, regardless of their military occupational specialty or rank. The problem is that most Veterans don’t realize that this equals project management experience or know how to capitalize on it to build a solid bridge to a lucrative post-service career as a Project Management Professional (PMP)®. VAVETS has partnered with VETS2PM to provide the opportunity for Virginia Veterans to become PMP certified. The VETS2PM program will include the following proven components:
- Translation of your military experience to project management hours for the PMP® application
- 35-hour PMP® Boot Camp taught by Military Veteran expert PMs. Meets PMI’s 35 PDU requirement
- Companion eLearning accessible 24/7 in our secure Student Portal
- 30-Day Study Plan and 1 year access to everything above. Re-attend Boot Camp 12 times if you want!
- Professional resume targeted for PM jobs and lifetime job placement assistance
- Membership to the Project Management Institute (PMI) = $150 exam fee discount/Free PMBOK® Guide copy
- 4-hour Interview Skills Workshop and 2 telephonic job interview debriefs
